A little information about the historic castle and gardens.

The Castle

Going back to the 13th century.  Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and Mother of Elizabeth I.

It formed the unlikely backdrop to a sequence of tumultuous events that changed the course of Britain’s history, monarchy and religion.

Its panelled rooms house fine furniture, tapestries and antiques

What is regarded as ‘one of the best collections of Tudor portraits after the National Portrait Gallery’ by David Starkey.

The Book of Hours Room beautifully illuminates two prayer books which belonged to Anne Boleyn and bear her inscriptions and signature.

The Gardens

Discover the magnificent award-winning gardens set in 125 acres of glorious grounds at Hever Castle. Marvel at the Pompeiian Wall and classical statuary in the Italian Garden.

Admire the giant topiary chess set and inhale the fragrance of over 4,000 rose bushes in the quintessential English Rose Garden

Stockbridge Town Hall – A small inclusive event

I am excited to be returning to this venue after many years….. by the invitation of Jeweller – Margot Hartley

Having last exhibited at Stockbridge Town Hall in 2010.

What you will find? – the classics are still being made.

Whether a candle holder or one of my scoop handled boards – they are still much in demand……

A keen fly fisherman? – There is always my unique laminated fish boards– made in a variety of timbers to show or present your latest catch?

As I have not shown in the Stockbridge area for over a decade…..

Maybe you have not seen me for a number of years? – The Meat board would certainly complete your set of scoop handled boards. Vegetarian? – I also have made a quarter-sawn Oak rectangular board the same size as the meat board to display and use.

I am hoping to display some of my exhibits on my specially made display stands made earlier this year.

Also on display will be a couple pieces from my signature ranges – The Lattice range and my distinctive Coloured range

Just a select number of 20 exhibitors to see. There is plenty of time to take in the ambiance of the event but also its surroundings.

This is a similar but slightly larger and longer show – than my following show at Sunninghill Artisan Craft Fair   Saturday 5th October.

Sunninghill Artisan Craft Fair – 5th October 2024.

Date: 5th October 2024
Time: 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

Sunninghill Artisan Craft Fair – 5th October 2024.

I am excited to be invited to the third Artisan Craft Fair of 2024 – 5th October 2024 being held in Sunninghill (Berkshire) – this is the third event in a series of four events that are taking place in 2024 at this location.

This event takes place in the centre of the village – so take in the ambiance!

A relatively new event to me – having exhibited here on 3 occasions in 2023  …….. but also the successful events in March and June 2024

A new location to show my work – although some of you will come across me at some of the bigger shows I take part in……..

Only one day to admire and make your decision with the pieces on display…….?

Yes I do sell online and you could purchase at another event – however most pieces are one – off……. The piece of timber definitely is unique!

– so better to purchase the piece that takes your liking.

With some of the events I attend – showing amongst well over one hundred fellow exhibitors and seeing over twenty five thousand visitors.

I will be within a group of less than 20 other exhibitors – who also entirely make their living from their chosen artisan craft.

This will be very much a more relaxed atmosphere – whether you wish to ask questions, make an inquiry, commission a special piece, ask about my bespoke wood turning courses  or maybe just take in the variety of work on display……

Key Facts!

  1. A lovely small and inclusive event with time to think about your purchases!
  2. You will be encouraging small independent makers / businesses
  3. Cordes Hall, Sunninghill High Street, SL5 9NE
  4. Saturday 5th October 2024 @ 10am – 4.30pm
  5. Take in, admire and possibly take home an item to treasure.
  6. Ideal opportunity to purchase an Early Christmas theme gift? (The final event of 2024 at Cordes Hall – Saturday 30th November.)
  7. Unfortunately – there is no Autumn Craft Event at Wisley with Craft in Focus  this year……… make the most of the opportunity?

Another event that was due another appearance! Glad to be accepted this year………

I have not shown my pieces at this event since 2008!  I think a lot has changed since then?

My pieces………..

My pieces – Yes certain pieces are classics and will be around for many years to come…….. (I hope), others have developed in their ergonomics by listening to my clients….. How they use my pieces and what features they would like to be part of their pieces.

Whether a product or a special commissioned piece – this is important to me…….

Selection of timber has always been at the forefront of my work – for instance – all my larger scooped boards / larger round boards are taken from as near as possible to the centre board of the tree. On Oak – you will see the distinctive medullary rays on the Square and all Rectangular Boards.

This achieves the best chance of stability in the future use of your board…….. These boards are also just a single piece of wood (not going to delaminate – boards glued with strips to make up the width!) The Meat Board or largest Rectangular Board are from an Oak tree approaching a metre in diameter.

The other change to one of my signature pieces of work – the lattice range  – the use of the combination of timbers within the piece. (Traditional but with a contemporary twist.) The majority of my lattice work is commissioned to the clients surroundings.

Another update since I showed at The Festival of Crafts all those years ago – is the majority of my coloured bowls now have a natural timber interior to compliment the ceramic looking exterior finish.

Midhurst 2024 with The Sussex Guild

This is Colin’s last show of 2024. (or is it? – my showroom is open or take a trip to Chichester Artisan Gallery)

A local show which I have always enjoyed as the largest event The Sussex Guild holds with around 60 exhibitors…….

Having shown at Ardingly College with The Sussex Guildin June, this will be my second event with The Sussex Guild this year.

Taking place in Midhurst at The Rother College – this Midhurst event is well established (over 20 years I believe!) – Used to take place in Capron House (now South Downs Authority offices) and the Memorial Hall

Once again highly-skilled designer-makers from Sussex and the adjoining counties –  will provide

a colourful feast of creativity to brighten the dark days of winter.

The show is perfectly timed for Christmas shopping, with almost sixty members of The Sussex Guild showing their beautiful and varied work, visitors will be spoilt for choice.

The Venue

The show will be taking place in several easily accessible areas – The Theatre, the Main Foyer and the cafe area.

The café within the show area will provide light refreshments throughout the weekend while you think about your purchases.

More substantial fare can be found in the cafés, hotels and pubs in this delightful medieval town.

Once in Midhurst

Ample numbers of road signs will guide visitors through the town, into the wide drive leading to the College car park.
